Google recently updated its iPhone and iPad mapping application to offer pit stops to navigation mode. The software has now taken advantage of the Apple 3D Touch feature, including those found on Apple maps in order to give you directions to work and from work to home right on your Home Screen.
Google Maps 4.16 for iOS allows iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus users to press and hold the app’s icon to bring up the shortcut menu with two interesting and important options.
- Directions to Work
- Directions to Home
Defining Directions to Work and Home
How does the app know directions to your home or workplace? It’s pretty simple. You have to define your work and home address by tapping on the settings icon and then go to edit home or work. Here you’ll only need to enter the locations and the application will do the rest on its own.
Not only does the Google Maps 4.16 show you directions to home and work, it also comes with integral bug fixes, and the ability to include detours to your route for example gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and more. The good thing about this is that you don’t have to leave the navigation mode when adding pit stops, which is way better than if you were to search for one manually.
To get the pit stops, you need to tap the magnifying glass on the top right corner of the Google Maps 4.16 interface. Apart from using this search icon, you can also use voice commands to find a name or category that you’re looking for. The results you get will include the ratings of the place and the estimated amount of time that the detour you’ve chosen will add to your trip.
